After dinner snacks?

Scratching your head as to why your dog might be adding poop as a delicacy to his diet? Here are some pointers on why and what you can do to get him to return to a more acceptable dining palette:

  • If your dog is still a puppy, this may be a normal part of experimentation - he will most likely grow out of it.
  • Once grown, there are generally two reasons: a deficiency in the diet, or it "tastes good."
  • "Tastes good" is why dogs gravitate to cat poop: cats have a very high protein diet, and since what goes in also comes out, cat poop become a yummy protein treat for dogs.
  • For a deficiency, it could be too much protein without enough fiber, which was the case for the Pekinese profiled in this story.
