Donating to a good cause

Sat, 09/13/2008 - 18:01

Many of us step up to donate blood to benefit to our fellow humans. What we may not know is that dogs can make the same positive impact to the canine population.

There are requirements, including:

  • Dogs must be at least 50 pounds and between 2 and 8 years old;
  • They should not be on any medication;
  • They must have A negative blood.

If the requirements are met, the dogs will go through a screening test to see how they fare during a test donation. If it is too stressful for them, they are not accepted into the program.

Greyhounds and boxers are the most preferred breed due to their "universal" blood makeup.

Many interesting, additional details are in the full article.
