MRI scans benefit our pets

Just as MRI scanning helps humans in pinpointing the cause of an illness, the same technology is now helping our pets too. With an MRI scan, a suspected malignant tumor can turn out to be something as treatable as a sinus infection.

The price tag is fairly steep, however, ranging between $1,500 to $2,500 across the country, but for many pet owners, that is not an issue.

"As the human-animal bond grows even stronger, people are willing to go that extra mile for their animals, regardless of the cost," said David Kirkpatrick, spokesman with the Illinois-based American Veterinary Medical Association.

Generally, MRI facilities are accessed via veterinarian referrals only. Check with your vet for the closest MRI center to you.
