Owls have been moving around different areas of Massachusetts lately, and scientists think their migration could hint at the health of our environment.
Since they are at the top of the food chain as birds of prey, it is easier and faster to see and document changes in their populations than what it would be if lower food chain animals, such as mice, were studied.
Theories for the migration include a shortage of food or increased breeding. Studying the distances they are moving and their migration habits will help fill in the puzzle.
