Blue Belly lizards- can you keep them as pets?

We found a blue belly lizard and my child would like to keep it as a pet. I know that many people would say that they belong in nature, but this lizard keeps coming to visit her outside in our yard and is not hibernating properly. Can you keep them like any other breed of lizard?
