Can pet rat mate with wild rats?

Can pet rat mate with wild rats?
Seriously worried that our kid's pet rat is mating with wild rat from the yard. Can pet rats attract other rats?

Unlikely
As wild rats never get too close to something they are unsure about. They also have a tendency to travel in colonies so there would be quite a commotion going on if they were paying your pet rat a visit. Bring your pet rat's cage inside and be done with the worry once and for all. BTW this will be much safer for the rat in terms of the heat etc.

Years ago, I use to raise rats.  The place I lived in was near a canyon and there were a ton of wild rats in the trees outside.  Some of my pet store rats had gotten out of the cage.  We started seeing rats that looked like a mixture of a domestic pet store rat and a wild rat, long tail with smaller ears, pointed noses with shorter tails.. lol

You rock!
Thank you, that made me laugh!!
