
In an interesting story a female Bar-tailed Godwit has set the new record for a known nonstop flight. With no layovers, stops for food or even extended periods of gliding "E7" as she is known, flew 7,257 miles across the Pacific Ocean.
The previous record was set by a Far-Eastern curlew, who flew 4,038 miles nonstop. The birds are tracked with transmitters as they make the long journeys and the information gathered in the studies broadens the possibilities as it relates to early migration patterns.
