Costumes, strangers coming to the door, loud noises outside are all
things scary to a beloved pet. The best thing we can do for them on
Halloween is to keep them in a safe place, with a radio or television
turned up loud enough to drown out all the human festivities going on.
Keeping them out of all the ruckus also helps them to avoid digesting chocolate or xylitol, an artificial sweetener used in many candies. Even a little bit can lead to a seizure.
And the hardest piece of advice to consider:
Please don’t put your pet in a costume unless you know that he or she loves it. Costumes can cause skin irritations, obstruct a pet’s vision or impede his breathing.
That's scary in itself!
