
According to a team of international scientists, the earliest known dogs lived over 31,000 years ago and were large toothy canines that dined on a diet of big game, like reindeer, horse and musk ox.
"The most remarkable difference between these dogs and recent dog breeds is the size of the teeth," says lead author Dr Mietje Germonpré, comparing the tooth size more to wolves than dogs.
