
International news organizations have been following the story of Rachet, a puppy adopted by Army Specialist Gwen Beberg stationed in Iraq. Gwen wants to bring her puppy home, but had to get past the United States military rules that prohibit soldiers from adopting pets while on tour of duty. Help came by way of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) who have a dedicated program, Baghdad Pups, that have helped over 50 pets find their way home with their owners to the United States.
Thousands of people worldwide signed a petition supporting the transport of Rachet, who was feared to face certain death if left behind. As it turns out, the puppy did receive clearance to go to the United States, but only 30 minutes before the scheduled SPCA flight was to leave. So there's hope this special dog can make it out on Sunday - our fingers will be crossed for a safe flight home!
